Online Buzzing to Attract New Fans

You see it all the time… companies giving away cool merchandise, bands giving away new music. Heck, I even offer a FREE Facebook eCourse. Seems everyone is coming up with cool ways to bring in more friends and fans. We do this in an effort to create a bigger buzz about our product, service, music, etc. Today I’m going to focus on my friends at

My favorite Facebook resource, All Facebook, recently posted this article: Facebook Clarifies Contest Guidelines. This is nothing new. Facebook has put out information about this in the past, saying you must follow their guidelines when it comes to administering a promotion on your Facebook page. I recommend you take a few minutes to read up the latest Facebook Guidelines. If you don’t follow their guidelines, you risk getting your account suspended or even deleted.

Let’s look at JustStrings: is the leading online retailer that offers its customers the world’s largest selection of musical instrument strings and accessories. They’re always coming up with cool giveaways and incentives. I always say the key is to attract new fans through your various social networks and ultimately drive them to their website and mailing list.

This week launched two new items via Facebook: Sweepstakes and Coupons. I recommended they set this up using a third party application at Wildfire.

Let’s break it down:

Sweepstakes is a June Giveaway for a chance to win a $300 Coupon towards the purchase and shipment of any combination of String and Accessory products at You must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age to enter. In just two days, they have received hundreds of entries. If this trend continues, they could easily increase their mailing list by 3,000 new fans in a month’s time. This is a great and cost effective way to increase the size of your mailing list while generating a buzz!

Coupon is a $5 savings on a D’Addario CT-10 Headstock Tuner. The offer is good between now and June 30. We all look for good deals on products and accessories. Right? And if you’re looking for a headstock tuner, $5 off is a great incentive. Of course you’re not going to necessarily generate hundreds of people using a $5 off coupon, but the point is getting people to your site. A coupon can generate a buzz, get people talking about you and your product/services, and it can get people to your site.

I think JustStrings is doing a great job offering cool giveaways and coupons that will get people to their website, increase sales and ultimately boost their mailing list. It’s important to understand Facebook’s Promotion Guidelines. If you don’t follow them, your account could get suspended or even deleted.

We’ll check in with JustStrings after these promotions end and see how they did. Are you running an online promotion through Facebook and/or Twitter? If so, tell us about it. We’d love to know how it’s working out.
