So many people ask me what is the best way to boost Twitter followers. The answer is to spend time every day posting and following others but just as important is to be attention grabbing.
Posting good content and following people are no brainers. But how do you get attention on Twitter?
I think the best way to get on anyone’s radar is to Retweet them. It says you like their post enough to share it with your followers. It’s an endorsement. Deborah E took a tweet I posted about my music biz client Bev Barnett and Retweeted it to her followers. That got my attention and prompted a response from me that grew into a conversation.
RT @madalynsklar: Great chat w/ @bevbarnett of @truewind. Check out her weekly TrueWind Tuesday webcast on #Ustream. ht.ly/8gXvY ♫

I Retweet lots of great posts I find while surfing Twitter. Here’s a post I RT’ed from ReverbNation.
RT @ReverbNation: The New Year’s Resolution list for every songwriter: ar.gy/rTa. What else should be on the list? @jon_ostrow

Tara Craig, who joined me on last night’s GoGirls Twitter Chat (see more on that further down in this post), did a great job grabbing my attention today with this #FF tweet.
#FF @MadalynSklar @GoGirlsMusic cuz girls rock!

#FF stands for “Follow Friday.” It’s a smart attention grabbing tactic. Twitter users will tweet who they suggest others should follow on Fridays by tweeting with this hashtag. It’s a great way to get attention because you are mentioning them and they will see this through their notifications or the next time they log into Twitter or their preferred Twitter application like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck. When Tara mentioned me in this #FF, I Retweeted it which then gave her exposure to my followers.
Another one on my radar today is TittyBingo. Yes, the name alone grabs attention! Last year they mentioned me in their #FF which prompted a reply because I had heard of them and it opened the doorway for conversation. Attention grabbing! Since that time they have made a point to mention me in their #FF every Friday!

Now I’m not saying mentioning people in your weekly #FF is going to guarantee results or RT’s from each one mentioned, but most time it does. It’s a great strategy to employ consistently. Everyone wants to feel appreciated and loved. This is one way of showing it on Twitter.
I run the weekly GoGirls Twitter Chat and I have to say it’s a great way to get attention.
GoGirls Twitter Chat every Thursday 9pm ET/6pm PT. It’s a great place to meet & network with others! #ggchat

Our chat is filled with musicians and music industry professionals. Many have become regulars because they understand the importance of networking and honestly, live Twitter Chats are a fun and easy way to meet people without having to leave your home or office. You can even do this on your smartphone from a venue while you’re waiting to go on stage or at the airport waiting to catch a flight! Every week we meet for an hour talking about everything related to the music business like touring, recording, music conferences and so much more. We all share information and advice. Of course you can be a lurker and not participate. But if you want to grab attention, it’s best to actively participate.
Here are tweets from Kira Small, Laura Marie and Tish Meeks at last night’s GoGirls Tweet Up (that’s what I like to call it!).
Holy crap it’s been an hour?? This #ggchat went CRAZY fast! #ggchat
