So let’s go ahead and jump right in. Here is my interview with Lilach Bullock.

Hey Lilach, thank you so much for joining the Twitter Smarter Podcast. I am so happy to have you here as my special guest today. My question to you is, what are your best Twitter tips?

Lilach Bullock:
Thank you so much. I’m really excited to be here, so thank you for inviting me. So first off, in order to be successful on Twitter, you need to be very active. So tweets get lost in a matter of seconds. So Twitter is one of the most challenging social networks in that respect. But on Facebook for example, you’d only post a couple of posts a day. But on Twitter, you’ll need to be much more active in order to be seen. So re-share your best content, find out a great content to share, retweet great posts and try to diversify the tweets you send out as much as possible. And although that might sound like it would take up a lot of your time, I think that once you get the hang of things, you can massively cut down on time spent, especially if you have a good social media management tool to help you manage everything.

Madalyn Sklar:
That is so true. So one of the ways that helps me manage my Twitter better is using Twitter lists because when you’re trying to be out there consistently everyday and you’re trying to respond to people, retweet people, it’s really easy for it to just become overwhelming.

Lilach Bullock:
It is and I think that’s the nature of Twitter and I think in order to maximize it, you have to be super organized. You have to leverage the tools available and really maximize Twitter with the list and things like that and hashtags and just know what you’re doing and be organized, especially if you have a large network like I know you and I both have, so yeah.

Madalyn Sklar:
Right. It seems like as you’re building it, as it grows, you have so many people, your network just really just blossoms and it becomes overwhelming to keep up with everybody. And I always say, “Hey you don’t have to keep up with everybody.” Create lists and just really hyper focus on specific groups of people.

Lilach Bullock:
Yeah absolutely. I mean I’ve gotten to the stage now where I can’t reply and respond to everybody. I wish I could, it’s just, it’s too many. So I leverage, I use lists and I try and like as many things. So if I don’t have time to respond, then at least I like it just to show that person that I’ve at least seen it and I’m acknowledging it, et cetera.

Madalyn Sklar:
I do the same thing, that’s a great strategy.

Lilach Bullock:
I think you have to. I think it has to not take over your life because we could spend … I think I remember about five, four years ago, do you remember the follow Fridays? Do you remember when that was-

Madalyn Sklar: Yes.

Lilach Bullock:
So I can remember one Friday, I literally spent about four or five hours just replying to people and I thought this is mental, I cannot keep doing that, as much as you want to. So you have to create systems that are scalable and more importantly, that you can maintain. And I think that just goes what Twitter and social media is all about, it’s about being consistent. So I think you have to keep that across your whole strategy and everything you do with your marketing.

Madalyn Sklar:
I agree cause it seems like people will just get on there when they have time and you know maybe they don’t have time today, so they don’t hop on Twitter and there’s no consistency, they just tweet when they can and I think that is a bad strategy because people, like you said at the beginning, our tweets gets lost so quickly, you do a tweet and it’s gone. So how are you teaching people to be front and center all the time, being consistent on there? How do you teach people to do that?

Lilach Bullock:
I think you have to have a tool, you have to leverage a tool and I think … You know, you used the word strategy and I would question if they have a strategy. If they’re just going on there on a top basis. You know when people say, “Well I’ve got nothing to share,” well you know you need to make things, you need to make things happen, you need to. Even if you’re struggling, then share other people’s content if you’re not creating your own content. So I think it’s important that you are actually responsible and you have a strategy. And the strategy, it needs to think about what your goals are. So there’s no point doing anything if you don’t have an objective. So for example, is your Twitter for you to generate more traffic, is it to generate more leads, more subscribes, are you doing it as a listening tool to listen to what your customers are saying or your competitors? So think about what your goals and objectives are and then create a strategy so that you’ll achieve those results.

Madalyn Sklar:
Absolutely. Now you mentioned tools several times. What tools will help people do this? What are the ones that you recommend?

Lilach Bullock:
Yes sure so, I guess the tool that I use on a daily basis is AgoraPulse, and this is what I use to manage my Twitter. It’s literally got everything I need such as a social inbox for managing my inbox with some pretty extensive monitoring features for social media. It’s got some really good great reporting, and it’s a very useful CRM tool and it’s also got a host of features that you can try out as well. So that’s my daily tool. I then use some other tools as well. So for example, in my content, I love ClickToTweet. So while this is more of a website tool, I still think it’s worth mentioning. Because what it does is it allows you to add clickable tweets throughout your blog posts that people can easily share with their audience with just a click, so then you’re generating more traffic and awareness as well.

I’m also a really big fan of measuring and monitoring so that you can see what’s going on. And I use a couple of tools for them. So Brand 24, they are a web monitoring tool which I only use when I need to make more extensive monitoring searches. So it’s great as you can use it across the web and not just social media. And then I also use Quintly, it’s a professional social media analytics tool. And again, this is useful for when you need to have a more in depth look at your analytics or for when you need to perform perhaps a social media audit as it can go into much more detail than regular social media reporting tools. So there is not one tool that does it all, even though some tools state they do it all. I think that it is a mixture of tools that you need to get the very best results.

Madalyn Sklar:
It would be nice if one day there was a tool that was the one that did everything. Wouldn’t that be great?

Lilach Bullock:
You know I tried to create one. A few years ago, that’s for another story.

Madalyn Sklar:
Did you?

Lilach Bullock:
Yeah.

Madalyn Sklar:
And how did that go?

Lilach Bullock: Oh my God, honestly? It was a nightmare, I had loads of problems with developers but that’s what got me into the social media space. I created, I came up with a spec for, you know like Buffer and HootSuite, I came up with it before they were around.

Madalyn Sklar:
Really?

Lilach Bullock:
Yeah. It was really ahead of its time. I think that’s why I’m so involved with tools because I obviously have been there and tried to get into that space. It’s very hard but now it’s so saturated isn’t it?

Madalyn Sklar:
It is, it’s really saturated. It seems like everybody is putting out a tool everyday and when it comes to the analytics, you mentioned Brand 24. I was looking at analytics yesterday to track my #TwitterSmarter chat, they’re so many, just for analytics.

Lilach Bullock:
I know. It’s crazy isn’t it?

Madalyn Sklar:
It really is. So you like AgoraPulse, I’m a big fan of theirs too. That’s a great all in one because it does so many different things and especially for your daily, and I love ClickToTweet, I’m a fan of theirs as well. I think it’s great to encourage people to tweet. Like you know, when I do the show notes for the podcast, I’ll take some of your tweetables and I’ll have it as a ClickToTweet to encourage people to do that. Brand 24, I like a lot and I was actually using it yesterday. And what was the other one you mentioned?

Lilach Bullock: Quintly, they’re not as well known. I’ve just been experimenting with them recently cause it’s always good to try new tools as well. So that’s really good if you’re looking at more in depth into your analytics. So I like Brand 24 because it does … Everyday I get a report with my social media and also my web as well, so it does both which is perfect. So I like it for that and you know, AgoraPulse, I just couldn’t manage my social media without it because you need something on a daily basis don’t you?

Madalyn Sklar:
You really do. Like for me it’s a combination of HootSuite, Buffer, Feedly and SocialJukebox. Like those are mine that I need everyday and it would be nice if there was one that did all of that.

Lilach Bullock:
Yeah I use ManageFlitter as well actually.

Madalyn Sklar: That’s a good one.

Lilach Bullock:
That’s a good one as well, I’m trying to think what else I use. I seem to be using so many different tools but I guess those are the ones I use on a sort of regular basis type of thing.

Madalyn Sklar:
Yeah I do often recommend ManageFlitter because that’s the one that does a lot of different things. I especially like that you can easily go in and unfollow people that don’t follow you back and then also be able to very easily see who are the top influencers that follow you. I like that feature.

Lilach Bullock:
Yeah I like being able to see which ones aren’t active as well in like the last 30 days or so, that’s a really cool feature. Because there’s no point in having all these followers if they’re not active, they’re just-

Madalyn Sklar:
Exactly. Well Lilach, this has been some great tips, I love that you shared a variety of tools as well because I love tools just as you do and I’m always trying and experimenting. I’ve not heard Quintly so I might have to go check that one out. Do you happen to know the URL for that?

Lilach Bullock:
Oh, I think it’s quintly.com

Madalyn Sklar:
Okay, I’ll find the link to that, I’ll put it in the show notes. Because I like to make it easy, for everybody that’s listening, go to the show notes and the information will be there. Well thank you so much Lilach. How can people best get in touch with you?

Lilach Bullock:
Yeah sure. So my website is lilachbullock.com. Take a look, I’ve got free traffic cheat sheet and I’m launching a webinar, actually next week which is really exciting, on how you can make five figures from content and something I’ve been specialized in.

Madalyn Sklar:
Oh that sounds good, I need to sign up for that.

Lilach Bullock:
Well yeah. So you know come say hello, I don’t bite. There’s a ton of free content on the site as well to help you maximize and generate more business.

Madalyn Sklar:
Great. And what’s your Twitter handle?

Lilach Bullock:
